Ultimate White Summer Dress

Debenhams Ruffle Hem Dress

The perfect summer dress can be an elusive thing. You want one that makes a statement, but can be worn year after year, one that’s slightly weather proof (or at least won’t blow up in the wind and won’t go streaky when it rains) and of course, it has to be white.

So after much searching, this Ivory Ruffle Hem Dress popped up at Debenhams. Simple, but with a beautiful ruffle detail along the bottom with gold stitching it’s got everything you need in a summer dress. It’s not too low at the front, so works well for formal occasions, and it’s lined, so has a bit of structure to it. It also ties at the back to help create a waist.

At £50 it’s probably not the cheapest dress, but it’s not bad value for money either. You can get it online or instores now.

Balmain Look Jeans

Balmain Look Jeans

Balmain is unmistakably one of the most popular designers of denim right now and if like me, you love them but the £1k+ price tag is out of your reach then it looks like Siwy have come to our rescue!

Pictured right, and available from ASOS for £150 these tie die skinny crop jeans are very reminiscent of Balmain’s pair as seen on their spring / summer 09 catwalk show (as per the image on the left).

Team as Balmain do, with directional cool separates such as a cropped leather jacket and slinky vest tucked in and heels.

With celebs such as Jessica Szohr, Kate Moss and Kylie all sporting the latest Balmain denim right now, imitations are bound to be flying off the shelves, so pick up your pair here before they sell out!

Judith Leiber Iconic Cupcake Clutch

Judith Leiber Cupcake Clutch

ust of the week, possible lust of the month even, goes to this Judith Leiber Cupcake crystal-embellished clutch. Fans of Sex and the City will recognise it as the bag Charlotte’s daughter had at Carrie’s wedding, the bag that she ‘helpfully’ put Carrie’s phone in so she missed all of Big’s calls.

The swirly crystal embellishments make it look very convincing as a cupcake, and the gold adds extra bling points. There’s a gold clasp at the front, and a short gold chain. Inside, there’s more gold, with a gold-tone leather lining, and there’s even a mirror for make up touch ups.

Of course, a bad like this comes with a pretty hefty price tag – £3,920. Luckily though, it’s currently sold out, so you won’t be tempted to mortgage your house for it!

Winter Trends 09/10 – Leather

Topshop Leather Stud Dress
Love it or hate it, leather is one of the trends we’ll be seeing a lot of come winter. When done badly, leather has the potential to go hideously wrong, but done well it can look classy, sophistcated and tough.

For a statement leather piece, Topshop have this great Stud Leather Dress. It’s black leather with gold studs for extra toughness. The low cut back means it’s more of a body con shape, so it won’t restrict movement and can be worn over a top to give a more casual look.

For a smarter look, team it with gold accessories to highlight the gold studs, and some chunky heels or boots. It would also look great with a pair of lace tights.
It costs £100 and is available from Topshop now.

Ballerina Chic

ACNE Ballerina Pumps
Following the soft make-up colours and chiffons that sashayed down the S/S 09 catwalk, another micro trend set to be popular this summer is Ballet Chic.

This trend can be easily achieved through the use of muted toned dresses, wrap cardies and skirts so stick to washed out shades and for a fresh feel, team with white pieces.

To top the trend off perfectly however, you’ll need a pair of point-style ballerina pumps like these gorgeous ones from ACNE.
Available from their online store these ballet style pumps cost £190 and come in several different colours and styles.

Luella Bartley launched a collection inspired by school uniforms, a little military, and with a British punk touch. Although it is not so remarkable as the collection for spring-summer 2009, which is outstanding and charming, this new collection has really nice details like the particular zippers (or zip fasteners) with beautiful shapes, and sheer fabrics mixed with other fabrics to create a great effect.

QUT Fashion

The fashion highlight this week in Brisbane, was the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Fashion Design Graduate Show. I attended the second show of three, which was a packed house at QUT’s creative industries precinct in “The Block” at Kelvin Grove. The events started on November 22 and conclude on the 24th. If you wish to find out more information about attending the last event, get more information here. View the Fashion Photography photos I took here. This event is a showcase of the work of students from the only Fashion degree in QLD. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion) program has had great success over the years where some students having gone on to win renowned competitions nationally and internationally. There was a combination of Womenswear, Menswear and Swimwear on show. The highlight for me in terms of presentation was the Oliver Twist theme shown by one of the students, where the models/actors put on a bit of a show for the audience.
I got myself a cosy spot at the back left in front of the catwalk, where I was shooting from an elevated position to try and shoot over the heads of those in the front row. Once again I shot without a flash, using an 85mm on Canon 20D. This gave me an effective reach of about 136mm which was ideal. The down lights over the stage caused some shadow to occur in the model’s eye sockets. Not much I can do about this besides use a flash, which I rarely want to do. Feel free to check out the photos in my Fashion Photo Gallery. There were a few models working that night I had done photoshoots with, they included Kristin Parkinson (whom also modelled at the Swimwear from Oz launch party), Diana Rodriquez and Carmen James, all of who are part of the Vivien’s Models agency.
